A great cup of The Hermit should not only delight your taste buds but should also help you prepare for all the challenges you face on a daily basis. One cup at a time, The Hermit will become part of that daily routine in which you take a minute of your stressful day, take a deep breath, have a sip of your coffee, and tell yourself: I am strong, I am capable, and everything will be ok….

After working for over 13 years as an engineer in the energy industry, I felt that something was missing in my life. It was then that I decided to embrace my inner Hermit and leave my “secure” career in search of new adventures and understanding. As a coffee aficionado from a young age, with a burning desire to have a more direct and positive impact on the environment and those around me, I conceptualized The Hermit.

I started my coffee adventure with a small batch roaster and 5 kilograms of green coffee that I brought back from Colombia after visiting my parents. As I experimented with roasting, The Hermit started to take shape. Now, we use a 3-kilogram commercial-grade coffee roasting machine that we run out of downtown Laredo, TX.

Our goal is not just to offer the highest quality specialty coffee to all coffee enthusiasts but also to provide a sustainable coffee experience. We want to enrich the lives of all those involved in the supply chain, especially the farmers and communities who make it all happen in the first place. We hope that our efforts will have a positive impact on the environment and the people we work with.

At The Hermit we believe that to create the coffee experience and the impact we dream with, we need you, the people supporting this vision involved from the earliest stages of the process to keep this adventure real and meaningful.

Our lives are often full of a clutter of things than while they seem important from the surface at first, they do not end up fulfilling our souls, mind, or heart. Many times, simple things like enjoying a sunrise or taking a picture with a stranger that thought your facial hair was funny, end up being more memorable and soul filling than the many other things we are constantly chasing. At The Hermit we have a philosophy of constant questioning and growth. We want to use the beverage we all love so much, coffee, as a medium to enrich our soul by making a positive environmental and social impact. Through this path we are also in search of those split moments when you are quietly drinking your first brew of the day and you can see everything in life with such clarity that feels unreal and mystical.

FROM THE FARMER TO THE COFFEE LOVER

The Hermit sources all its coffee directly from the coffee farmers or through partners that share our vision and have developed strong relationships with farmers overtime. These relationships go beyond simplistic transactional activities and aim to strengthen the environment and the communities supplying our beloved fruit.
